Why is it so hard for some people to recognize that freedom and government are opposites?

freedom
Brad asked:

Freedom is the absence of government interference. A person is free to the extent that the government chooses to stay out of his way.

Those who claim that expanding government can expand freedom are being dishonest. They are dangerous demagogues who sell a free people into slavery under the guise of freedom (thus the phrase “Freedom is Slavery”).

How many Democrats will stand up for freedom of speech when they try to enact the ‘Fairness Doctrine”?

freedom
Andrea asked:

How many will stand of for our right to freedom of speech even though the views talk radio voices are not yours. Isn’t freedom of speech more important than quieting the opposition?
Even Clinton was talking about it yesterday, saying it was a good idea.
It’s all about capitalism, people want to hear conservative radio, businesses buy airtime on these programs. They won’t buy airtime on something no one will listen to, therefore they go out of business
Agree’d honeybee, that’s why I don’t vote Dem anymore.
Rick, we live in a nation that practices soft fascism
I guess everyone is right, not 1 Dem has answered this Q saying they believe in freedom of speech. Very sad isn’t it
Deb, everything you said was delusional, for starters I never said anything about Dems except I used to be one, and secondly, Obama has done nothing but sh** on the constitution since day one. Narrow minded people think just because you don’t support Obama you must have supported Bush. News flash, some people(including me) didn’t support either. Of course Obama makes Bush look like Mother Theresa
Ron Paul was not my guy, if you read my response you would see that I USED to be a Dem. I grew up. I’m from Texas, our state is doing quite well. Let me guess your from one of those liberal broke states with your hand out.

How can Christians call it freedom of choice when it is the same thing as a gun to your head?

freedom
Filip E asked:

Freedom to choose is given to man by God. Man has two main choices:

1) Accept the Love of God and, upon death, go to paradise for eternity,
2) Refuse God and, upon death, just die, be utterly damned.

How is that freedom of choice when it is the same thing as a gun to your head?

How can Liberals claim to be the guarantors of freedom when everything they do is exactly the opposite?

freedom
Let Freedom Reign asked:

They want to expand Government, which in and of itself takes away freedom from individuals. Everything the government mandates is done under a threat of JAIL and FINES. Where as if a person chooses not to use the services of a private sector entity, it is simply “ok have a nice day”. Too much government leads to tyranny, oppression and loss of individual choice yet Liberals just can’t get enough of it.
