Do people understand what Freedom of Speech really means?

Freedom
I wanna talk to Samson asked:

I read the article about the Colorodo University reporter saying F**K Bush in his article. He may now lose his job, but he is saying that his freedom of speech is being taken away. I have read many comments of people saying how this controversy is just another example of freedom of speech being eroded.

People need to understand that freedom of speech means that you won’t be arrested for saying what you want. Example, I have the freedom to tell my boss to F**K Off if I want. I wont get arrested, but I will get fired.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. What do you all think?

I am in total agreement with you. We are free to express our opinions about whatever we want, but there are consequences. I think many people have either not had a good civics/government classes or have just forgotten what they learned in those classes. Cable television has a right to air just about anything they want to, and I have a right not to watch it.
